Indian folk Art Corridor By Vidisha Pandey

Special Art Class: Kolam Art from Tamil Nadu

The Indian Folk Art Corridor by Vidisha Pandey is organizing a special online art session to celebrate one of South India’s most beautiful traditional art forms. On 4th March 2026, participants will get the opportunity to learn Kolam Art, guided by artist Susmitha Dhruva from SusDhruu Arts.

What is Kolam Art?

Kolam is a traditional decorative art form that originated in Tamil Nadu, South India. For centuries, it has been drawn daily at the entrance of homes using rice flour or natural powders. The practice is deeply rooted in culture and spirituality.

Kolam patterns usually consist of symmetrical geometric designs and dot grids, carefully connected to create flowing shapes. These designs are believed to symbolize:

  • Positivity and good fortune
  • Prosperity and abundance
  • A warm welcome for guests and divine energy

Apart from its cultural meaning, creating Kolam is also considered a mindful and meditative practice, helping artists focus, relax, and express creativity.

Learn Kolam in a Live Online Class

This special session will introduce participants to the basics of Kolam, including:

  • Understanding dot grid patterns
